What other notable statutory benefits does Germany’s social security system offer?
Occupational Accident
Employers are required to provide occupational accident insurance. Occupational accident insurance offers protection and assistance in the event of workplace accidents or job-related illnesses. If an employee is employed, he/she is automatically covered, no matter what salary he/she earns.
In the event of an accident at work or occupational illness, the statutory insurance covers payment for medical treatment (including rehabilitation), benefits and services to aid the employee’s reintegration into the workforce (e.g. training), and compensation for the employee and their dependents.
Contributions for statutory accident insurance are funded entirely by the employer, meaning the employee will be covered at no extra cost to him/herself.
Child Benefits
To support parents with the costs of raising children, the government provides child benefits to almost all parents in Germany. There are various benefits and allowances that parents can benefit from.
