General Onboarding Processes and FAQs Internal
Why does Velocity Global have to issue the offer letter?
As the employer of record, Velocity Global must be the party to send any offer letter or employment agreement to a candidate. This mitigates any entity establishment or co-employment risk and ensures we stay compliant with local labor law.
This also establishes that the employment relationship is between the candidate and Velocity Global from the outset of the onboarding process.
Can we share draft employment agreements with our candidate?
As the employer of record, Velocity Global must be the party to issue all official employment documentation. In general, draft employment agreements should never be sent to a supported employee, by any party. Velocity Global can be held liable for both verbal and written offers of employment, even in draft form.
The Velocity Global onboarding process is in place to protect all parties and mitigate risk. This process allows for an agreement review period where you can ask questions and update critical information in the agreement before approval. Once you provide final approval, the employment agreement will be extended to the supported employee by Velocity Global.
If you are interested in providing something to the candidate before an agreement is shared with them, we recommend capturing the key details of the offer in an offer letter, which Velocity Global would then share with the candidate.
Can we join the welcome call with our supported employee?
For reasons such as timezone restrictions, language barriers, and co-employment risks, we generally prefer that the welcome call be between our local employee experience team and the supported employee, only.
Can Velocity Global assist us with the recruitment process?
Velocity Global does not provide recruitment services directly, but we have a strong network of well-respected partners around the globe, many with industry specializations. If you’re interested in being connected with one of our partners, please fill out this form.
Given that many of our partners have industry specializations, providing us with as much detail as possible about the role you’re seeking to fill and the country you’re expanding into will allow us to recommend the right recruitment partner.
Can Velocity Global share employment agreements with us?
Assuming commercial terms have been agreed to and the onboarding process has begun, employment agreements will be shared with you as part of the employment agreement review process.
As a reminder, you should never send out an employment agreement to the employee directly. Velocity Global must be the party to send all employment-related documents to a candidate or supported employee.
How should we send our supported employee work equipment such as a work laptop or work cellphone?
Please note that Velocity Global is not involved in the distribution of work equipment to supported employees.
We recommend providing work equipment by purchasing the equipment and either engaging a local delivery service, or having the supported employee pick up the equipment at a nearby location.
In many countries, we are not able to support the reimbursement of the cost of equipment purchased by the employee (compliance concerns) and highly recommend against providing a grossed-up bonus to the employee to purchase this equipment on their own (ownership concerns).
If you have existing equipment that you’d like to ship, we suggest using a local delivery company that services the country involved. Supported employees often know the best provider in their area, so we recommend reaching out to them for suggestions. Velocity Global also has a partner that specializes in providing, maintaining, and recollecting IT equipment. If you’d like to be connected with this partner, please reach out to Velocity Global through your normal process, and we will help you.
Do supported employees receive onboarding training from Velocity Global? Who is responsible for onboarding trainings?
Velocity Global provides onboarding training regarding the employer of record model, our HR systems, and any mandatory local or regional compliance trainings, where applicable.
Your company is responsible for any onboarding trainings regarding your business and the supported employee’s role.
What is the onboarding status of our supported employee? What is pending in the process?
