What allowances do employers commonly offer in Brazil?
Additional food allowance. We recommend providing between BRL 600–1,500, although the mandatory minimum amount stated in our collective bargaining agreement (CBA) is BRL 20.76 per day. Meal vouchers in Brazil must be provided through a fixed monthly amount because we cannot calculate days worked per month.
Family allowance. This allowance is mandatory for certain employees. Employees with a monthly wage lower than a preset government amount have the right to receive an extra monthly payment per child under the age of 14. If the employee earns up to BRL 165,598 max., then he/she is entitled to receive BRL 56,47 per child.
Transportation Voucher (“Vale-transporte”). This allowance is only mandatory if the employee requests it. The employer can then proceed with the deduction. Employees receive round-trip tickets (between home and place of work) financed by a deduction of no more than 6% of their base wages. If the amount is less than the base salary's 6%, then the deduction must be discounted accordingly. Please note that Velocity Global cannot rent a car for your supported employees in any country in the Americas, including Brazil. We can only provide an allowance, which should be negotiated between you and your supported employee depending on the type of car and the given use.
Participação nos Lucros e Resultados (PLR). This is paid twice each year and depends on the minimum amount fixed by our collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The amount for 2023 is BRL 300.50 and will be paid in March and August.
Basic Food Basket Allowance. Per our collective bargaining agreement, this allowance is mandatory for every employee with a monthly salary lower than BRL 6,189.94. The minimum allowance amount stated in the CBA is BRL 141.85.
What should my company offer as a work-from-home (WFH) allowance in Brazil?
In Brazil, employers have to acknowledge a work from home allowance (Ajuda de custo de infraestrutura de conectividade em teletrabalho). The law does not establish a specific work from home allowance amount. Parties can freely agree on this work from home allowance. Velocity Global has a standard work from home allowance of BRL 300 per month.
